No offense to my sourdough bakers out there, but I have had enough. During this pandemic, my timelines have been filled with it seems like everyone’s sourdough starters all the way through to the baked and sliced loaves. I have never thought about sourdough so much in my life. And while I haven’t attempted it myself, I did order a box from a local bakery in New York City that had a loaf of sourdough, and you know what I realiz...

It’s raining in Manhattan as I watch a man light another man’s cigarette with a neon green lighter. I’m sitting perpendicular to where they are standing, which puts me uncomfortably close to the action. This would be weird, even for New York, if it weren’t for the glass window and multicolored rock bar top that separates me from them. And so it’s like I’m not even there, because essentially, I’m not. They are outside on the co...

11:30 a.m.

A new 62 bus pulls up to the stop. I’m excited to get in this new blue and yellow bus (the old ones were primarily white and black).

11:40 a.m.

Turns out, the new buses are basically the same, except for there will be an option to swipe into the bus using your phone soon, not just your MTA card.

12:03 p.m.

The ferry departs St. George. It’s 60 degrees outside with blue skies, so it should be a good ride. I sit on t...

11:04 a.m.
The ferry pulls out of the port to narrowly avoid a tanker accompanied by what seem to be two small Coast Guard boats.

The ferry isn’t packed this morning like it is most mornings, probably because it’s a Saturday. But interestingly, there don’t seem to be many tourists on the ferry this morning either. Maybe they’ve already seems Lady Liberty or maybe they’re taking their sweet time to get to her on this clear, pl...

In no other world does cheesecake seem to go with theatre. But in New York? That combination’s a no-brainer.

“Why?” you may ask. Because Junior’s Cheesecake is right by Broadway, something I discovered recently while getting lost searching for Studio 54, the theatre that was, until January 13, the residence of The Lifespan of a Fact starring Daniel Radcliffe, Cherry Jones and Bobby Cannavale.

Now, if you don’t know what Junior’s...

Ever since I arrived in New York, I’ve been wandering around wondering where all the good food is. I expected a lot from New York’s food scene. But I’ve been disappointed all three times I’ve visited the city because the good food was just that. Good. Not exciting or interesting or innovative. It was just good. But in a city like New York, “good” feels average when it comes to what food can be, and what food is heralded as bei...

By this point, you’ve probably already had the season’s obligatory Pumpkin Spice Latte (maybe even multiple times, if you’re like me). But, Starbucks has a new offering this fall: The Iced Maple Pecan Latte with Cold Foam. Honestly, this drink is a nice break from the PSL. The Maple Pecan Latte (the MPL?) is not too sweet, not too bitter. The flavor overall is very subtle, with just a hint of sweetness from the maple and a lit...

There are a ton of brunch places in St. Louis, and we are #blessed for that. Honestly, brunch is the best meal ever; who doesn’t love eating breakfast into the afternoon while spilling all the latest tea with your closest friends and family? Brunch just feels indulgent, and because you only have it once a week (probably), it should be! With that in mind, here are three of St. Louis’ tastiest brunch spots that you totally need...

It might have a redundant name, but one of Starbucks’ latest creations is actually pretty spectacular. The company recently released two new iced coffee drinks: the Iced Vanilla Bean Coconutmilk Latte and this, the Salted Cream Cold Foam Cold Brew. Could Starbucks have devised a less obnoxious name for this drink? Probably. But is it worth saying every time you pull up to the drive-thru? Absolutely.

The first sip of this drink...

Summer is officially here, and that means we’re halfway through the year! So I thought I’d take this time to recap some of the most memorable foods I’ve eaten so far this year. Spoiler: a lot of them are from the trip to New York City that I took back in February. I’ve enjoyed a lot of the foods I’ve eaten this year, but these are my favorites thus far.

Black & White Cookie from Ess-a-Bagel in NYC

I never understood the hype abo...
