The Weekly: Shackburgers and Social Distancing

A New York minute: 

Sunday, 12:23 a.m. 

It’s past midnight, and I’m not tired yet. But I just took a Benadryl to ease a very itchy bump on my arm, so I should be soon. 

 

Obviously, there’s a lot going on right now, I don’t need to tell you that. I, like many, have spent my week working from home. But now, unlike many, I’m gearing up for a trip to Mexico that Arun and I planned in January. And we’re concerned, but we’re also dedicated to moving along as planned, unless something major prevents us from doing so. 

 

No one knows when the panic from the coronavirus will subside and when everything can return to normal, so for me I’m finding that whatever I can do to keep my life somewhat normal has been helpful to keeping me from being a part of the panic. 

 

I know it’s not an easy time, and things are changing daily at this point, but I really believe this will pass soon and that we’ll be okay. My grandpa has this saying that is something like, “If you can keep your head while everyone around you is losing theirs, then you’ll be fine.” And I think that’s perhaps the best motto for where we’re at right now. Stay safe, don’t panic, breathe. We’re going to get through this. 

 

Story that should be on your radar: 

"Frank Sinatra Has a Cold," (Esquire). A classic piece of journalism, in which Frank Sinatra indubitably becomes afflicted with the common cold. That description doesn't sell it, but truly, it's an incredible story. 

 

Food for thought:

Shake Shack's burgers are better without sauce. I love a saucy burger as much as anybody, but all the Shackburgers I've had come with way too much creamy Shack Sauce. This week I ordered their staple burger without the beloved Shack Sauce, and everything changed. The burger truly shines without it. So I wonder, why does Shake Shack insist on slathering Shack Sauce all over an already perfect burger? I wish I had the answer, but for now, I'll just be ordering mine without Shack Sauce for now. And if anyone happens to see Danny Meyer, let him know I just want to talk.

 

Beauty hot take:

I'll pass on the fake freckles. I received a PR product this week intended to help you fake having freckles (or make your freckles more prominent if you have them and your foundation covers them up.) I find nothing inherently wrong or bad about this product, I'm just not into this trend. I don't have freckles, and I don't think they suit my face. I think freckles are super cute, but they weren't meant for me and I accept that. 

 

Best product of the week:

A bouquet of deep green, dusty pink and creamy white flowers from Designs by Ahn, sent to me by a beauty company. The same company that sent the aforementioned fake freckle product also sent me some gorgeous flowers. Despite the fact that the product isn't my thing, I loved the gesture of the bouquet and I'm excited to see what this new company comes out with in the future. 

 

One last thought:

I said it last week, and I'll say it again, please stop panicking. I know concerns over COVID-19 are at an all-time high, and I'm a little worried, too, but no one is doing anyone any favors by panicking over this. So take the necessary precautions, wash your hands and don't touch people (both of which you should be doing regardless, but anyway), and STOP PANICKING. Thank you.
